Using a reverse-image search can help find your stolen work

There is nothing more surprising than seeing work you’ve created being stolen. It happens all the time in the world of art, though, especially with people selling canvas prints of other people’s work.

One day, you might browse for an image out of curiosity and find that it’s being sold (and potentially that a great number of items have been sold). That’s unfair to you, because someone else is profiting off your work.

How do you know if someone has taken your work?

You can search for your own work online if you want to check to see if your work has been stolen. You can use a website such as TinEye Reverse Image Search or Google’s reverse image search. You’ll then see all the URLs where your images are located and can investigate them.

If you’re sick of people taking your work, especially if you’re a popular artist, you’re not alone. Many people struggle with this issue, and it’s something to take seriously. If you want to take steps to resolve the problem, one good option is to talk to your attorney about filing a cease and desist. You can ask the other party to remove your artwork from the internet or other location and to stop selling it immediately.

Another option is to discuss filing a lawsuit against that individual. You might want to do that if they’ve made a significant profit off your work. Our website has more on copyrighting your work and how to make sure that it is not being stolen. No one should be profiting on your work without your permission.
